SUMMARY

Layton Tamberlin is a London-based financial investor who has held a directorship position in 14 companies. Within a short career he has amassed significant experience in private investment and is a highly respected person in the industry.

Early Business

After earning a masters degree in Mathematics and Philosophy in 1998, Layton Tamberlin took a job at the investment bank, Merrill Lynch UK working in the mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance areas. When he left the company after four years, he had executed several transactions, through his involvement in such deals as Gannett acquiring Newsquest and advising iTouch plc, PHS Group plc and on the IPO of the Generics Group. Merrill Lynch earned its reputation as specialist in debt underwriting, equity securities and in supplying high level solutions suited to the needs of its international clientele.

Layton Tamberlin left Merrill Lynch UK in 2002 and joined TDR Capital. With the support of the Tudor Group, Stephen Robertson and Manjit Dale were establishing the new private equity firm. They raised the first fund in 2003, amounting to some €550 million and in 2006 the second fund brought in about €2 billion from institutional and other investors. Layton Tamberlin covered all investments that happened during his years there, involving such transactions as Algeco, Wiilliams Scotsman, Resolution, Pearl, ASK and PizzaExpress. TDR Capital has since generated an IRR of more than 70% on investments made during those years.

Samedaydoctor, a private medical clinic established in London in 2003, allows patients to walk in off the street without an appointment for treatment by a private General Practitioner. Layton Tamberlin joined the company, a Sullivan Street investment, as its Chairman in 2009 having left TDR after a motoring offence. The medical staff includes many specialties, including sexual health services and vaccinations. The company expanded its facilities across the country in 2007 and now either owns or manages offices in eight English and Scottish locations. With a goal of offering medical services in the most easily accessible way, Samedaydoctor recently began providing online services for many of its activities.

In February 2010 Layton Tamberlin joined Richard Sanders in co-founding Sullivan Street Partners. The firm makes equity investments in the range of £5 million to £15 million to take controlling stakes in UK companies. With their combined experience in structuring investments and improving operations, they are well-placed to tackle complex acquisitions and build company value.
